Kenya AA — Specialty Grade
KARANI AA
SL28 & SL34 — Kenya's Benchmark Varieties
SL28 and SL34 are Scott Laboratory selections developed in the 1930s that define Kenya's coffee identity. SL28 thrives at higher altitudes and contributes blackcurrant and citrus intensity, while SL34 adds floral complexity and full body. Together they produce the vibrant acidity and sweetness Kenya AA is world-renowned for.
Origin & Processing
Karani Factory · Kabare FCS
Situated at the foothills of Mt. Kenya, Karani Factory lies in the Kabare area of Gichugu Division, approximately 112 km northeast of Nairobi. Established in 1998, Karani is one of 10 wet mills operated by the Kabare Farmers' Cooperative Society. Today, 600 smallholder members deliver cherries to the factory, jointly cultivating around 134,000 coffee trees over a combined 175 hectares. The factory processes mainly SL28 and SL34. Cherries are hand-harvested and fully washed, ensuring a bright, clean, and complex cup profile.
